Afrikrea, Ivory Coast e-commerce startup raises US$1 million in funding

Afrikrea, Ivory Coast e-commerce startup of things African made announces the raising of US$1 million in funding to employ more capable hands and the expansion of its online marketplace infrastructure.

Afrikrea was started as a side project by its co-founders Moulaye (CEO), and Kadry (CMO). Then in 2015, they devoted their full time to it thereby making it a full-fledged startup. They later found a technological builder in the person of Luc (CTO).

Afrikrea is an online marketplace for the discovery, buying and selling of clothing, jewelry, bags and accessories, fabrics and supplies, and art and crafts made in Africa. Over 5000 sellers using the platform have been able to ship products to over 101 countries so far. US$5 million in sales have been made so far.

Afrikrea is the first of its kind as e-commerce bringing together both creators and buyers of all made in Africa fashion clothing, jewelry, crafts, and art. This means that all creators of African crafts, art, and fashion can easily open an online account on the Afrikrea online marketplace from anywhere in the world and start selling. So, the online marketplace allows you to find in one place the greatest variety of African fashion, art, and crafts inspired by Africa.

Apart from facilitating transactions and exchanges between buyers and sellers, Afrikrea also serves as an open community affording its member’s mouth-watering benefits. For example, while sellers can benefit from reductions in their exhibition or shipping costs by taking contracts, buyers can benefit from original discoveries and buying for good prices by subscribing to the startup’s promotional service called Afrikrea Box.

It is worth noting that Afritrea was one of the 10 innovative African startups that competed in last year’s edition of Jack Ma’s Netpreneur Prize.

This US$1 million fundraised is being championed by Afrikrea’s existing investor Saviu with the inclusion of Id4 Ventures. The startup is using the funds to invest in more productive marketing avenues, expand its online marketplace and employ more experienced developers.

With Afrikrea’s partnership with DHL, sellers from any part of Africa and environs can now ship worldwide for lower prices.
