Sanofi, a reputable French biopharmaceutical company that has a global presence, opens its application portal for the AfricaTech 2020 and thereby calls for entries from entrepreneurs and start-ups to participate in the challenge with the aim of promoting researches and developments in the African health sector.
Since its inception, Sanofi has been relentless in developing drugs, medications, and treatments for heart diseases, cancer, metabolic-related diseases, infections, and pain. It has partnered with prominent professors, researchers, and entrepreneurs to develop novel treatments for ailments.
Recently, Sanofi kicked into action to develop a drug for treating the novel Covid-19 Virus, which has killed thousands of people within a few months. At present, the company is looking into ways by which the drug that cured SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) could be used in treating Covid-19 Virus. Sanofi is working round the clock and investing in researches to tackle this deadly virus.
Interestingly, Sanofi has opened the application portal for the 2020 AfricaTech Challenge and it is an opportunity for entrepreneurs, researchers, and innovators to come up with viable solutions for prevailing diseases or ailments in the world. AfricaTech is a laboratory dedicated by Sanofi Pharmaceutical Company at VivaTech to anybody, be it students, entrepreneurs, researchers, or pharmacists, to proffer solutions to health problems.
VivaTech, on the other hand, is the largest technology event in Europe that has under one roof, the team of students, brightest entrepreneurs, investors, academics, and executives. It is a platform for these people to collaborate, network, pitch their ideas, get inspired, and exhibit their innovations.
Sanofi’s AfricaTech 2020 challenge has four categories and applicants are expected to provide the best of innovative solutions. The four categories are:
- How to support patients with a digital health book in order to access information and make decisions?
- How to help healthcare systems leaping from manual to smart logistics solutions at point of care?
- How to improve financing and impact of innovative health solutions in Africa?
- How to improve maternal and neonatal health in sub-Sahara Africa?
“We are in search of affordable and user-friendly solutions from African start-ups, with at least a proof of concept with positive results, in at least one country in Africa. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for aspiring tech-preneurs in Nigeria to showcase their talent and provide real solutions to some of the issues currently plaguing the health sector,” said the Director of External Affairs at Sanofi Nigeria, Oladimeji Agbolade.

Invitations will be sent to the selected start-ups to pitch their solutions before Sanofi leaders, industry professionals, and a jury at the AfricaTech 2020 during the VivaTech event that will hold from June 11 – 13, 2020, in Paris, France. After the presentation, the jury will select start-ups with the best viable ideas and avail them the opportunity to be coached, mentored, and collaborate with Sanofi to develop their solutions.
